Dr. P. Chitra is presently working as Director of Research & Development at Desh Bhagat University, Punjab from 03.09.2021 to till date. First job given Nursing Director of Faculty of Nursing the same university, the important tasks she completed soon and promoted to Research department.
Previously she served a full time Pediatric Nursing Professor at Ambo University, Government of Ethiopia from Feb 2017 to July 2018. Dr. P. Chitra has done her bachelors’ in Nursing and Masters’ in Child Heath Nursing from Rani Meiyyammai College of Nursing, Annamalai University and Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai respectively and received her doctorate in Pediatric Nursing from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu. (Study setting was Amrita University – Pediatric Oncology unit.) She holds a certification in Essentials of Palliative Care at New Delhi and Compassionate Touch Training from USA. She has completed relevant nursing refresher courses of Cancer care , Maternal & Neonatal Care and Research Methodology, SPSS .She possesses rich academic experience for more than 23 years, which included her academic assignment as Assistant Professor at the reputed Kovai Medical Centre and Research
Institute, which has been a significant turning point in her academic career. She served as the Principal at G. Kuppusamy Naidu Memorial Trust Hospital Coimbatore, which is a rare feat for an individual to assume at a young age. With her undue thirst for research and teaching, she was invited to join the Department of Child Health Nursing under Amrita College of Nursing at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi Campus, Kerala state as an Associate Professor in
2006, promoted as Professor in 2009 the total experience of this university 11 years. The above credentials exemplify her zeal towards research and diligent professional commitment as a thought provoking teacher in upbringing academic enrichment and maintaining a standard throughout her academic career. She has guided numerous undergraduate and postgraduate projects. In addition to that, she handled Nursing Administration and Management Subjects for a period of 5 years. Her college development activities comprise of creation of Pediatric Lab at Amrita College of nursing in 2008 and Play Room for hospitalized children at Amrita hospital in 2009. She has actively performed in the extra-curricular and co-curricular roles and responsibilities at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, which includes NAAC Exhibition Coordinator, Health Committee Chair, Library Committee chair, Research Committee Member, Guidance and Counselling, Class Coordinator of PG AND UG’s- likewise the different roles.
She is serving as the Research Coordinator at Amrita College of Nursing for a decade, since her joining. She has published and presented papers in more than 30 research articles in refereed and
indexed international and national journals and books and book chapters, which are indexed by Scopus and Index Copernicus with high impact factors. She is also the reviewer, editorial member, advisory committee member and editor for many refereed and indexed conferences and journals at India and Abroad. She has been the Special invitee for various countries World Nursing Conference (WNC) in the organizing committee and served as review board member in 2015 and World Nursing Conference 2016 at Singapore. Besides, her academic stint, she is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades. To mention a few, she has received the coveted Outstanding Woman Educator and Scholar Award for her astounding contribution to Paramedical Sciences and Research, which is a national award endorsed on her by the reputed National Foundation for Entrepreneurship Development (NFED) in its 3rd Women’s Day Awards on 8 th March 2016 at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She has been the recipient of Outstanding Faculty Award from Venus International Foundation Faculty Award (VIFFA) on July 2015 at Chennai.
She has received numerous best paper awards in National and International conferences and chaired international conferences. In commemorating her astounding academic services and research contributions, she has been conferred with the prestigious Rashtriya Gaurav Award by India International Friendship Society (IIFS),& New Delhi on 9th June 2016 and Inspirational nurse leader award from Amrita Institute of Medical sciences on May 2016- International nurses day celebrations.
