Dr. Tooba Mahboob is currently working as visiting research fellow at Walailak University, Her current research projects includes therapeutics for parasites, virus, bacteria by using natural products and in silico approaches.. She hascompleted her Postdoctoral research at Dept. of Medical Microbiology, University of Malaya. She has done her Ph. D in the field of Medicine from University of Malaya in 2018. She has expertise in natural products and novel drug delivery system particularly for the treatment of infectious diseases. Her work on amoebicidal agents and their novel drug delivery using nanotechnology creates new pathways for improving healthcare especially for infectious diseases. She has experienced in microbiology, cellular biology, molecular biology, cancer research, natural products and nanotechnology. She is one of the members of Southeast Asian water team as well as South-east Asian Natural product team. She has worked on immunological aspect of Flavivirus including Dengue, ZIKV by studying gene expression analysis. Her findings in the field of infectious diseases could provide an alternate treatment to combat the infectious diseases caused by pathogens.
Research Interest:
I have obtained 10 years research experience in dealing with microorganism which includes parasites, bacteria and viruses particularly Streptococcus pneumoniae, Acanthamoeba spp., Naegleria, Giardia, Crypto, Leishmania donovani, K. pnemoniae, P. aeruginosa, SARS-CoV-2, Dengue, HSV-1 and II and Zika. I have worked on microorganisms and their potential therapeutics from the natural products by antimicrobial assays as well as in silico analysis. The mode of action of the therapeutics were also studied by conducting various assays as DNA fragmentation etc. In addition, I have worked with drug delivery systems such as nanotechnology to improve the efficacy of drugs. I have worked on various primary as well as secondary cell lines which mainly includes brain cells, pulmonary, human colon cancer cells, lung epithelial cell line, VERO cells. Apart from that, I am a member of Southeast Asia water team and Southeast Asia natural product team. I have conducted numerous researches from Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, Myanmar, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia for the analysis of water quality. Water research experience is mainly based on waterborne pathogens and toxicology. I have attended courses on basic and advanced immunology with emphasis on cell biology of immune system at University of Malaya, Malaysia. I am very much interested in protein docking study in bacterial cells, molecular expression cell biology, haemolytic activities and binding of peptides for my future research.
