Alain Dufresne is currently Professor of The International School of Paper, Print Media and Biomaterials (Pagora) at Grenoble Institute of Technology, Grenoble, France. He obtained a PhD in Electronics from the National Institute of Applied Sciences at Toulouse, France and aMSc in Chemical Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal and in Solid State Physics from Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse. He is an expert on polysaccharide nanofibrils and nanocrystals (cellulose, chitin, starch), on processing and characterization of nanocomposites based on renewable resources and on valorization of the biomass. Alain Dufresne was Associate Professor of Physical and Metallurgy & Materials Physics Lab. at National Institute of Applied Sciences, Lyon, and professor in the Research Center on Vegetable Macromolecules (CERMAV) at Joseph Fourier University, Grenoble. He was, for one year, visiting professor at Program of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials (PEMM) of COPPE/UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro, and visiting professor for one month at Polymer Research Centre (PORCE) at UniversitiKebangsaan, Malaysia. From 2014 to 2017, Alain Dufresne was part-time at Fortaleza, Brazil, working in the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA). He received the 2016 International Nanotechnology Division Award and FiberLean® Technologies Prize awarded by TAPPI, and EPNOE Science Award 2019. He is in the 2016 top 300 most cited researchers in materials science and engineering/Elsevier Scopus Data, and 2018, 2019 & 2020 highly cited researchers/Clarivate Analytics.In the "polymers" subfield of Subject wise world ranking of top 2 percent scientists conducted in 2020 by Stanford University, he ranked 9th in the world and 1st in Europe among the 80,670 researchers worldwide in this field.

Dieter H. Bimberg is the Founding Director of the Center of Nanophotonics at TU Berlin. He chaired the department of Solid State Physics at TUB from 1991 to 2012.From 2012to 2018 he served as Adjunct Distinguished Professor at King Abdul Aziz University Jeddah. Since 2018 he is the director of the “Bimberg German-Chinese Center forGreen Photonics” of the CAS at CIOMP. His research includes growth and physics of nanostructures, ultrahigh speed and energy efficient nanophotonic devices, single q-bit emitters for quantum cryptography, and nanoflash memories. He has authored 1500+ papers, 60+ patents, and 7 books resulting in 64,000+ citations and a Hirsch factor of 112. He is member/fellow ofthe German, Russian, American, and EU Academies of Sciences, the American Academy of Inventors, the American Physical Society, life fellow of IEEE.His honors include the Russian State Prize in Science and Technology, the Max-Born-Award, the William Streifer Award of the Photonics Society of IEEE, the UNESCO Nanoscience Award and Medal, Heinrich-Welker-Award,the Nick Holonyak jr. Award of OSA, the Nishizawa Award of IEEE and the Stern-Gerlach Award of German Physical Society. He received honorary doctorates from the University of Lancaster (UK) and the St. Petersburg Research University of the RAS.

Thomas J. Webster’s (H index: 103; Google Scholar) degrees are in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh (B.S., 1995) and in biomedical engineering from RPI (Ph.D., 2000). He has served as a professor at Purdue (2000-2005), Brown (2005-2012), and Northeastern (2012-2021) Universities and has formed over a dozen companies who have numerous FDA approved medical products currently improving human health. He has directed numerous international centers in biomaterials and has graduated over 200 students with over 750 peer-reviewed publications. Prof. Webster is a fellow of over 8 academic societiesand is a SCOPUS highly cited researcher (top 1% citations for materials science and mixed fields) as well as a Public Library of Science (PLoS) World Top 2% Scientist by Citations in all fields.

Michael Giersig (Freie Universität Berlin, Faculty of Physics), prof. dr. hab., a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, has published over 300 publications in the field of physics, chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, medicine, nanotechnology and engineering. His work has been cited more than 21,300 times in the ISI Index (without self-citations), an average of 76 citations per publication, and when his H index is now "76". In the Thomson Reuters world ranking of the top 100 chemists and materials scientists for the last decade 2000–2010, Giersig is listed at 75th position in chemistry and 83th in materials science. With his achievements, Giersig made a significant contribution to the synthesis and fundamental research of low-dimensional semiconductor nanostructures and functional metallic nanostructures with unique physical properties for advanced energy and biomedical technologies. Some of his most important research has been published in scientific journals like Science, Advances in Physics, Advanced Materials, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Nano Letters and Nature Communications, focusing on how nanoscience fundamentally affects several key electronic and biomedical technologies. Giersig has received many awards and decorations, the most important in the last 10 years are: 2014 Satienti Sat Medal, awarded by the Polish Foundation of J. Śniadecki, K. Olszewski and Z. Wróblewski for outstanding scientific achievements in physical chemistry and materials engineering; 2013 foreign member of the Polish Academy of Sciences; Section: mathematics, physics, chemistry and earth sciences 2013 Lee Hsun Research Award on Material Science awarded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences 2011 Alexander von Humboldt Prize awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science Lecture subject: Nanotechnology, its uniqueness and application potential We are confronted with the concept of nanotechnology not only in the daily information from the media, but also subconsciously in the practical use of its products, such as mobile phones. Nanotechnology deals with the creation and application of structures, materials and devices whose sizes are similar to the sizes of individual atoms and molecules. In today's lecture I will try to bring you closer to the specifics of this technology and present in particular the physical and chemical properties of its products, i.e. nanomaterials, compared to their counterparts in the macroscopic world. The mentioned characteristic properties of nanomaterials in physics are called quantum effects, and it is these effects that are a necessary condition for their unique applications.

Katsumi Kaneko is a distinguished professor of Research Initiative for Supra-Materials, Shinshu University. He had been a professor of physical chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Chiba University until March in 2010. He moved the current University in 2010. He graduated master program of physical chemistry, the University of Tokyo in 1971. He published 530 papers. Chemical Society of Japan and American Carbon Society awarded him in 1999 and in 2007(Charles Petinos Award), respectively. He has developednew nanospace-materials science: Adaptation of atoms, molecules, and ions to highly restricted nanoscale solid spaces.He showed in-pore superhigh pressure effect of nanoscale pores, partial dehydration effect for confined ions, a clear evidence for quantum molecular sieving effect, and partial breaking of Coulombic law for ions highly restricted in electrically conductive pore spaces. Hegave a solution for hydrophobic into hydrophilic transformation of hydrophobic nanoporous carbons for water vapour adsorption. He developed a novel separation for heavy isotopic gases such as O2 and CH4. He found outstanding separation properties of nanowindows in graphene. Now he is challenging a new guideline for separation membranes. He was the president of International Adsorption Society from 2004 to 2007. He is a fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry, International Adsorption Society, and Chemical Society of Japan

Dr. Hong Li is currently a Nanyang Assistant Professor in School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. Before he joined NTU in June 2016, he was a postdoc in Stanford University in United States. His research focuses on developing new nanomaterials for optoelectronics and catalysts for energy conversion and storage, including hydrogen generation, biomass valorization etc. Dr. Li has published more than60peer-reviewed papersin international journals including Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Nano Letters, Journal of American Chemical Societyetc. His publications have received more than 11, 000 citations.

Prof.K.C.James Raju did his Ph.D from Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India and working as a Professor at University of Hyderabad, India. His research work is in the area of Dielectrics, Ferroelectrics, Piezoelectrics and Magnetoelectrics and their applications in the microwave frequencies. He uses laser and microwave based methods to prepare thin films of these materials especially at lower temperatures. The nanoscale versions of these materials are studied by his team for their applications in the microwave frequency range. He works on studying these materials in the microwave frequency range and to use thin film ferroelectrics for making voltage tunable microwave devices and miniature high Q resonators.

Juliana Cancino Bernardi is a visiting professor and a researcher collaborator at University of São Paulo, Brazil. Born in Maringá, state of Parana in Brazil, she graduated in Chemistry – Bachelor, and Licenciatura - from the State University of Maringá. She obtained her Master's and Doctorate in Sciences - Analytical Chemistry concentration area - from the São Carlos Institute of Chemistry and co-supervision by the São Carlos Institute of Physics, both from the University of São Carlos Paulo. During her doctorate, she undertook a sandwich internship at Rühr Universität, Germany. She held the Post-Doctorate at the Institute of Physics of São Carlos in the Nanomedicine and Nanotoxicology Group acting as a group leader. She was a visiting researcher at the Center for Bionano Interactions at University College Dublin, Ireland. Her research is focused on the application of analytical techniques in Nanomedicine and Nanotoxicology, acting mainly on the development of theranostic nanoparticles and biosensors applied to analytes of medical interest, bioanalytical nanomaterials and toxicological studies of nanomaterials via electroanalytical, cell biology and membrane models.

Lai’s main research interests are in the areas of chemically modified metal oxide photocatalysts and carbon graphene materials, especially in environmental pollution management and solar energy technology. Lai’s works have been published in more than 180 refereed international top-tier journals with h-index of 24, 40 book chapters, and 135 international proceedings in materials science, physics, chemistry, and renewable energy research.
